Verruca Treatments

Verrucas are a type of wart that develops on the foot, they can appear in isolation or as a cluster. Verrucas are very contagious, they can take months for them to develop and the infection is passed on from objects or surfaces that have been contaminated. A very common place to get a verruca is from a swimming pool. Verrucas are harmless but can sometimes become painful if they are on an area that bears weight.

There are a few methods of treatment available for verrucas, there are:

• Acid based treatments- This involves applying a liquid or ointment containing acid, these acids gently destroy the surface area of the skin that has been infected by the virus,this method will be applied to the verruca at weekly intervals. Once this treatment has been applied you will need to keep the foot dry until you return.
• Cryotherapy-
This method involves freezing the verruca - we use nitrous oxide - and may need several treatments.
• Home treatment - advice can be given on the best way to treat verrucae at home with topical medicaments
